It’s been an eventful June to say the least for my little village shop and me.
Two colossal incidences occurring within a couple of weeks of each other has made for interesting times, and whilst I never intended for Dress Cheshire to become the focus of overwhelming media attention in this way, it’s safe to say everyone knows who we are now!
Whilst the £250,000 shop heist has hit us very hard, you will have since seen national TV and newspaper coverage of the Jack Watkin fraud case. I have been a central witness in the case, after he stole over £100,000 and two Hermès Birkin Bags from me personally, and I took it upon myself to see him brought to justice. Thankfully, he saw sense on day two of the trial this week and pleaded ‘guilty’. The case is drawing to a conclusion with his sentencing 3rd September.
There is much to say on this fraud case, it has been a painful, personal journey for me and my family since 2021. Obviously, this is a new revelation for many of you, but for me I have been dealing with its impact for four years, and in the last two years working closely with Cheshire police to put this man behind bars.
Whilst I can be tongue-in-cheek about a prospective side-career as the next Miss Marple in a Netflix drama, there are very real effects of the last few years’ worth of trauma for me to navigate. I’m conscious of the attention my life has received of late, as well as the reactive feedback (most of which has been unbelievably supportive). But I certainly did not plan or expect these two events to unfold at the same time.
I am made of tough stuff, I am not knocked down easily, and I certainly won’t be defined by these two events going forward. My business is my passion, it’s my expertise and my livelihood, and I will continue to do what I do best – buying and selling preloved luxury goods on behalf of our loyal and trusting customers.
