Designers we love… Bottega Veneta

A focus on Bottega Veneta

As a retailer of preloved luxury fashion brands, we’re always keeping an eye on new and classic brands’ latest collections. One design house catching our eye at the moment which is appearing in our shop regularly is Bottega Veneta.

Recognised for its artisanal craftmanship, the Italian brand has become popular amongst global celebrities, driving demand for its stunning leather goods.

Bottega Veneta has established itself in the world of high-end fashion with its innovative designs yet commitment to quality and traditional craftmanship. The brand name itself translates to “Venetian Workshop” to acknowledge its roots and dedication to artisanal techniques.

A Signature Design

Most of us would recognise Bottega Veneta’s woven leather handbags as seen on Kendel Jenner, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Sofia Richie. We recently spotted our very own Cheshire-based resident, Molly Mae loving her new oversized burgundy Bottega.

The woven leather technique and style is a signature design by Bottega Veneta, known as ‘intrecciato’ to create a unique texture. The pattern has catapulted the brand into fashion prominence since the 1970s, celebrated for its attention to detail but also its durability and quality, ultimately making the leather goods timeless pieces.

How The Brand Started

The brand was founded in 1966 in Vicenza, Italy, by Michele Taddei and Renzo Zengiaro. And under the creative direction of Daniel Lee, who took the helm in 2018, Bottega Veneta has undergone a recent modern renaissance. Lee introduced contemporary silhouettes and bold colours, which appealed to a new audience.  The “Pouch” bag, with its soft, voluminous shape, quickly became a must-have accessory, demonstrating the brand’s ability to blend innovation with tradition.

Bottega Veneta’s designs are not just about design; they represent ‘understated luxury’. The brand’s mantra, “When your own initials are enough,” suggests the idea that true luxury is defined by quality and craftsmanship rather than logos.

Bottega Veneta’s original shop opened in Venetia, Italy, where the brand began. And in 1972, they opened a store in New York, on Madison Avenue.
